QLD: Dangerously drunk driver avoids jail

BRISBANE, Feb 8 AAP - A woman who was five times over the legal blood alcohol limit and
driving on the wrong side of the road when she crashed into another car, seriously injuring
the driver, was given a wholly suspended sentence here today.

Judge Patsy Wolfe said jailing Jean Lois Broadbent would "serve no purpose" and the victim
was better off with the $30,000 compensation Broadbent had been ordered to pay.

However, Judge Wolfe said that did not mean that other drunk drivers who caused serious
injury would not be jailed.
